Norway: Overnight in Oslo

In August, we embarked on a trip to southern Norway! We had toyed with various ideas about how best to see the famed fjords of Norway, and ended up settling on doing the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour that is put on by the tourism bureau there. It's not really a tour as much as a packet of timed tickets to get you from Oslo out to the beautiful coastal city of Bergen in as scenic a way as possible :) We knew before we left that it wouldn't be an ideal trip for Charlotte, because of the amount of travel required and that we would be sleeping in three different hotels/apartments in three nights. However, we bit the bullet and survived the extra toddler challenges as well as we could!

We drove down to Gatwick in order to take advantage of the low-cost Norwegian airlines, and arrived into Oslo a little after noon. We took the train into the city center, where we met our AirBnb host at the train station. We chose to stay quite close to the main train station due to our departure the next morning by train -- I think it was a good choice, but it didn't end up allowing us to see much of Oslo. It poured rain most of the time we were there, so we went out for a walk around the opera house then called it a day as we were all somewhat soaked. The pictures below characterize what we saw well -- rain, construction, tall angular buildings, and the opera house. One bright spot is that the costume design room can be seen from the side of the opera house, which was kind of neat! We grabbed some takeaway for dinner and crashed pretty early that night.

Soggy walk!
