Wimpole Farm visit - Feb 2016

We have gotten to visit Wimpole Farm several times -- it's only a few miles from our house. You used to be charged extra for admission to the farm (National Trust membership allows free entry to the estate itself), but they have recently changed their policy so that it's all included. Hooray!

The first time we visited the farm last year, a very tall horse startled Charlotte when it raised its head up over the barn door. This time -- no scary horse, but we visited the piggery at feeding time. It's advertised as something fun to see -- but pigs are SO noisy! I had no idea. They were all squealing and screaming in excitement at the prospect of food. Some of the sows and boars had their hooves up on the edges of their enclosures as well, and they are tall with enormous heads! Charlotte was understandable a little scared, and talked about how "those pigs are really noisy!" for weeks afterward.

(Sidenote: We went again in April 2016 to see lambing season, and she was very brave to go see the pigs again. We planned it better this time -- NOT at feeding time! The lambs were adorable, but I didn't get many pictures.)

Paul, Charlotte, and I headed to the farm on Valentine's Day as a fun morning time activity before Paul went to work a late shift that evening. We saw the rabbits, chickens, geese, pigs, horses, cows, goats, and sheep -- but Charlotte's favorite activities were "driving" the old tractor and playing on hay bales in the barn!

Rabbits!
The piglets (the least noisy of the group)
Playing with hay in the barn
"Driving" the big old tractor
Hard to believe, but it was a sunny winter day in England!
