Anglesey Abbey

We made our second use of our National Trust membership on Friday the 27th of February. Paul was off work, so after lunch, Mom, Paul, Charlotte & I loaded into the car and headed to Anglesey Abbey. It is not far, just north of Cambridge -- probably about 35 minutes to drive there. When we arrived, the place was pretty full based on the parking lot! We made a few laps before finding a spot wide enough for my CR-V to fit into comfortably. We had been told that the snowdrops are the famous part of this Trust site, and since they were in bloom it wasn't surprising to see how crowded it was!

The first part of the path was quite crowded as we had started walking just behind a large tour group. At a point when they stepped aside for more information, we were able to pass them and then it was much more comfortable! The Winter Garden was the initial pathway we took. It was a real treat to see the snowdrops, crocus, and other small bulbs starting to bloom. There were also some blooms on some of the shrubs, and we were pleasantly surprised to get lots of good scents as we walked through the garden. It felt like spring was coming -- Mom was trying to soak it up as much as she could before heading back to *very* snowy New Hampshire. After all the snow they've had in the greater Boston area, Mom & Dad are speculating that their official "snow out" date (when all the snow has melted from their yard) might not be until May or even June... usually it's April 15th or so. Yikes. It will be interesting to find out!

Anyway, we had a nice walk around about half of the Abbey grounds. There was an even further walking path that we decided against this time, but will hopefully get to see another time. Charlotte seemed to enjoy being outside, although she has now started yanking her mittens off as soon as I put them on her. And tucking them in like a burrito within the blanket is not working either. So cold hands she will have until spring *really* arrives! Here are a few nice pictures that Paul took at the Abbey.
